Sarah Bay Gachot


Sarah Bay Gachot is a writer, educator, and artist who lives in Los Angeles. She teaches photography history and, in 2016, her book (of which she is editor and author) on the photography of Robert Cumming will be published by Aperture. She is also working towards curating an exhibition of Cumming's photo works for 2017. Her arts writing and reviews can be found in Aperture, The PhotoBook Review, the Photo-Eye Blog, ArtSlant, Hyperallergic, The Daily Beast, and others. In 2015 Gachot completed a 6-month workshop for arts writing that she was granted from the Creative Capitol/Warhol Foundation's Arts Writers Grant Program and the International Art Critics Association and, from 2012 - 2015, she co-curated monthly events for artists - a salon of sorts in Los Angeles. Previously, before focusing on teaching and freelance writing, she was a fellow in the Photography department of LACMA. Her artworks/performance, which most often take the form of piñatas have been included in exhibitions at the Hammer Museum, REDCAT, Human Resources LA, Machine Project, and other wide-open spaces.
